

Abstract forms based upon the simple shapes of geometry have always been the heart and soul of earth art. For example, ancient stone megaliths were typically built in circular patterns. Earth mounds were often built to emulate the winding body, yet essentially linear, body of a serpent. Glyphs depicting animal totems were built with rigid lines and sharp angles that emphasized the dimensions of each form. These expressions of human faith, consciousness, and creativity date back thousands of years. Today’s landart still shares this love for geometry and creative freedom, although its motivations are often far removed from those of ancient people’s.
