Check your drainage systems before the rains come.This is the most practical aspect of winter landscaping, and quite possibly the most important. The worst thing you can do is neglected a drainage problem in your yard that will only be magnified when heavy rains set in during the latter part of the winter. Uncontrolled storm water can devastate your top soil and have a noticeable impact on your lawns and gardens as well. Extreme erosion can also expose tree roots and damage them in the process.
